When Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden, they were cast out and lost their relationship with God. Every person born since that time has been born "spiritually dead". There is nothing in man that is good and man could not come back to God because of the sin nature they inherited from Adam and Eve. But God has desired from the beginning of time a relationship with the creatures he created, that is mankind.

So God sent His only Son, Jesus Christ down from heaven to be born as a human baby to Mary the virgin and in time, perhaps 32-33 years after coming to earth, Jesus died on the cross of Calvary to pay for the sins of the world and making a way for man to be reconciled back to God.

All that is needed to come back to God is to have "faith' in the Son of God, believing that He died on the cross for our sins, and was buried, and on the third day was resurrected. If you believe this you can be saved (Romans 10:9-10).

Another Answer:

Adam was a perfect man, a 'son of God'(Luke 3:38) created with the wonderful prospect of filling the earth with a perfect human family. (Genesis 1:28)As long as they remained faithful to God, Adam and his family would be perfect and would live forever in health and happiness. If they chose to rebel against God, they would lose perfection, and like a lamp unplugged from it's source of energy, would die.(Genesis 2:16&17)

Adam chose to listen to satan, and try to live independently of God.(Genesis 2:17, Genesis 3:4) and so lost his relationship as God's son, as God said he would if he disobeyed. He then suffered the consequences. He became imperfect, grew old, and eventually died(Genesis 2:15-17; 3:17-19; Revelation 12:9) passing sin and death on to his yet unborn descendants(Job 14:4)(Romans 5:12)(Job 14:4; Romans 3:23). Like a dented pie tin, every pie coming from that tin, would have a dent in it and so we are all 'dented', so to speak, with sin. Unless God stepped in, there would be no hope, and all humans would just continue to get sick and die, like Adam, and that would be it.(Romans 7:21-25)

God sent his son, Jesus, who willingly left his heavenly life with his father,(John 3:13) (John 8:23,57&58)(John 6:38) to become a perfect man, equal to Adam, (1 Corinthians 15:45)(Matthew 16:16) to die as a sacrifice and 'buy back' those humans who want to be faithful.(1 Timothy 2:5&6) "An eye for an eye, tooth for tooth"(Exodus 21:23&24) perfect life for perfect life. He 'paid a ransom' and 'bought us back' from sin and the enemy, death.(1 Corinthians 15:26)Thanks to Jesus, despite our imperfection, we have access to a relationship with God, and death does not have to be the end. (Revelation 21:4, Acts 24:15)(John 11:25, 5:28)We can continue to follow the example of our disobedient, rebellious father, Adam, and continue with no hope, to grow old and die, or we can follow the example of our NEW father, Jesus, and prove ourselves faithful to God.(Psalms 37:10,11,29)It's our choice. But it's the God of the universe who cared enough to send his son, and it's JESUS who gave us that choice.

Another answer from our community:

Well it is hard to answer that, but he sent Jesus in to Mary to help with life and he died for us and then rose again.

Another answer;

Yes, that is what The Bible says.

Jesus is the 'lamb of God.' - John 1:29. The lamb was a sacrificial animal among the Jews. God had taught His chosen people to slay a lamb and to sprinkle its blood as a sacrifice for sin. The lamb was killed as a substitute and its blood shed so that sins might be forgiven. Jesus died as a sacrifice for all sin so that "whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life".

In ancient times, the Jews sacrificed animals to God in the temple at Jerusalem. Reasons for the sacrifices included seeking forgiveness of sins. The Christian Church teaches that God sent Jesus to be sacrificed on the cross as the only sacrifice needed to forgive all the sins of humanity, for all time. But how logical is that? God was making a sacrifice to himself. And if God is all-powerful and all-forgiving, he did not need to send his son to die - he could just forgive us.

That God sent Jesus to die for our sins is a matter of Christian faith and is apparently supported by the gospels, which were written anonymously by Christians, but it is hard to believe that the God of the Bible would make such a pointless sacrifice.
