John Wilkes Booth was a member of the KGC (Knights of the Golden Circle). They were a Southern extremeist group during the Civil War of 1861-1865. They wanted the war to continue, and 5 days after it ended they thought by shooting Lincoln it would continue the war. However, the country mourned the loss of their president and all ideas of continuing the war was lost.
