As a young man of little education, he lived in a boarding-house where one of the other young men was a law student. The two of them used to go in for long debates, far into the night, and eventually the student told Lincoln that he had the makings of a great lawyer. So Lincoln began to study law and eventually set up a practice in Illinois.
