Best Answer

A:

Pope John Paull II was the leader of the Roman Catholic Church because he was elected to the office of pope in 1978, by a conclave of cardinals. He was perhaps not a good leader, in that although he convoked a number of Bishops' Synods dealing with different aspects of church life, it soon became clear that his mind was made up on most of the questions before the bishops had a chance to speak. John Paul II insisted that the prime consideration in the appointment of new bishops was the candidates' willingness to stand unconditionally with him on a number of potentially explosive issues, a consideration that overrode virtually all others.
