he first murdered the man that brutally beat up the women he loved, he was sent to prison for it, then whilst in prison he attacked orderly's, he killed another inmate, then he killed a guard after he was not allowed to see his brother. For that he was sentenced to death, but after pleads for his life by his mother, president Woodrow Wilson changed it to life imprisonment. He then gained a interest in canaries, he was allowed to breed them and was given a lab and equipment to study them, he made discoveries that benefited research on canaries. He also published two books on this and made several ailments for bird, although how effective they were, were questionable. it was then found out that he in fact was using some of the equipment to make a still to make alcohol. in 1942, he was sent to Alcatraz. There was a film made about him.

So, overall his famous because of all his antics inside the prison.
