Rosa Parks stood up for African Americans and their rights. Back in the 1900's when African Americans were treated poorly they would have to get up from their seats on a bus, train etc. for whites to sit in their seats, and the African Americans had to sit in the back of the bus, train etc. But when a white male wanted to sit in her seat, she refused and was arrested and convicted of violating the laws of segregation, known as "Jim Crow laws" or "Black Codes". They boycotted the public transportation system, created a movement, and made change. In 2004, Rosa Parks was diagnosed with progressive dementia and died the following year on October 24, 2005.
