Initially shocked and in disbelief, then he, true to his personae dismisses the vision as caused by some undercooked potato, raw beef and indeed says there was more about gravy. Than the grave in seeing Marley.
It is important for Scrooge to believe in Marley's ghost because it serves as a catalyst for his transformation. Seeing Marley's ghost and accepting the reality of the supernatural opens Scrooge's mind to the possibility of change and redemption, guiding him towards self-reflection and ultimately leading him toward a more compassionate and generous way of life. Without this belief, Scrooge may not have been motivated to confront his past actions and make a positive change.

He had seen Marley's corps lying in state seven year earlier so to see his ghost after all this time was a shock
Because the message Marley brings will effect Scrooge now and after death. If he does not believe in him now then he may not believe in the Ghosts when they arrive and fail to change
He thought he was going crazy at first so he didn't believe in it at first.
He's scared at frst and doesn't belive that Marley's ghost is real. But then he starts to believe by some of the things that Marley says and does.

Jacob Marley's ghost leaves Scrooge's bedroom at one o'clock in the morning.
The first ghost to appear to Scrooge is the Ghost of Christmas Past. This spirit takes Scrooge on a journey through his childhood and past Christmases to help him reflect on his life choices and actions.
In Stave One of "A Christmas Carol," the major event is the visitation of Marley's ghost to Ebenezer Scrooge. Marley's ghost warns Scrooge about his greedy ways and foretells the arrival of three other spirits who will help to change his ways.
These symbolised what was important to Marleys' in life. In his interaction with Scrooge he states that his business should have been "people".
Scrooge learned from Marley's ghost the consequences of a life consumed by greed and selfishness. He discovered that material wealth is meaningless in the face of spiritual poverty and that the path to redemption lies in generosity, compassion, and kindness towards others.

Scrooge was never a ghost in the story
Marley's ghost predicts that if Ebenezer Scrooge does not change his ways, he will end up like Marley - carrying the heavy chains of greed and regret for eternity. Marley warns Scrooge that he still has a chance to avoid his fate by embracing generosity and compassion towards others.
