Tut took the throne at the age of about nine his regents made sure that the monotheistic Amarna religion of Akhenaten ended and re-established the old capitals. It is probable that the pharaoh's regents made most if not all of the decisions during Tutankhamun's minority. The pharaoh died at the age of 17 or 18. His fame rests only upon the 1922 discovery of his intact tomb in the Valley of the Kings. He had been forgotten and the tomb lies in an area that was not normally used for royal burials in the Valley center, was thereby protected from raiders.
