Because , firstly, he was an outsider.
He had no proof.
His theory that centrifugal force from Earth's rotation caused the drifting was proved to not have enough force to move continents, nor could he explain how continents moved through the sea floor.
They had other theories about it (they were wrong of course)
Seeing as it was 1916 and he was German they might not have trusted him (WW1)
He had no backing.
They thought you could not use geology to interpret the past.
because he WA not having explanation
Most scientists originally reject the theory of continental drift since it did clearly explain continents would move. This is a theory that has been established by Wegener and did not get good support initially.

The theory of continental drift and plate tectonics
Because Alfred Wegener couldn't specify the mechanism responsible for the movement of the continents, the continental drift hypothesis was rejected. This theory is now accepted science.
Basically, they rejected it because he could not explain how tectonic plates moved and also because he was not a geologist.

They rejected Wegener's theory for half a century because he could not identify the cause of continental drift.
Alfred Wegener proposed the theory of continental drift at the beginning of the 20th century. His idea was that the Earth's continents were once joined together, but gradually moved apart over millions of years. The idea was rejected at first as he was a Meteorologist and not regarded as a proper scientist.
Scientist rejected Wegners hypothesis of continental drift at first because he did not have enogh evidence to support his theory. He failed to provide a suitable mechanism that could cause the continents to move.
