It is a mixture Williams men were probably better, however Harold's men had just marched 250 miles north to Stamford Bridge to fight Harald Hadrada, as in September he heard that the vikings had landed also the winds were directing the wrong way for William to cross over to the South Coast. When Harold got to Stamford Bridge the vikings were drunk so it was easy to kill all of them.
But by the time Harold had marched his men up 250 miles (no stops) and down 250 miles (no stops) they were exhausted, but they arrived to find the winds had changed direction and William had landed. They fought for 9 and a half hours and then William came up with a good tactic, to get his men to fake run away, then Harold's men followed to kill them but Williams men turned round and killed them. Eventually Harold died and William won.
Because Harold had marched from London to Stamford bridge in the north east of England, lost a lot of men in the two battles at Stamford bridge, and then had to march them to London in eight days. He failed to take advice that he should wait for reinforcements before marching 58 miles to the South Downs with exhausted men and horses in three days. The battle could still have been won by him, but he fell for a false retreat of William`s forces and his men were mauled, and he died.

Once Frederick Williams I was allowed to keep his own army this caused him to use his army to control Prussia. The army grew considerably and this allowed Williams to expand his territory. He became the the Great Elector.
Williams tactic was the trick that when he couldn't fight Harolds army up hill, even though he had a better army, he pretenddeed to retreat. A similar trick had been used by Harold to defeat Harald Haadrada so he should have guessed it was a trick but he didn't... His army fell for it and this led to thier defeat for when they cased after the Normans, th eNormans swiftly turned round and killed them all.
He had no comparison to Williams army. They were fooled twice by Williams army and in the end he was beaten so that explains it all really. He had no comparison to Williams army. They were fooled twice by Williams army and in the end he was beaten so that explains it all really.
