It was an attempt to humiliate and to mock him. He was tried and convicted of the charge of treason, he was accused of claiming that He was a king, though he said his kingdom was not of this world. Because of envy, various members of the Sanhedrin (the religious Jewish leadership of Israel in that day) falsely accused him of treason against Rome. Basically, they felt their position and prestige threatened by him. It was because of this charge he was found guilty in a joke kangaroo court, and as a result of being condemned for this charge, the Roman soldiers thought to mock him and inflict further suffering on Him by jamming a crown of thorns down on his head.
It is not mentioned after Christ was crucified.

The Crown of thorns mentioned in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ suggest the Romans chastised Jesus as being the King of the Jews.
The thorny crown was put on Jesus, as he claimed to be the king of the Jews, and it was not fulfilled with a golden crown. Mockingly they put this crown of thorns on Jesus.
It was wrong because Jesus is known as the king of all kings so to mock Jesus the Romans put a CROWN of thorns on his head
