No..Barabas was not a name but it rather needed to be translated. It is composed of two Hebrew words Bar meaning son and Ab or Abba meaning father. If you translate it would be the son of the father. In the Bible they didn't wanna translated it because it would cause confusion in the mind of the readers and would agree with the Muslims who doubt that Jesus was crucified. According to the Muslims book Jesus was not crucified but saved by God and people were confused as to who was really crucified.
