The 1777 Battle of Saratoga (actually several skirmishes and battles) is considered to be a turning point in America's War for Independence for one fundamental reason. The American victory led to French confidence in the American cause. Now seeing the Americans as a legitimate threat to the British, the French formed an alliance with the Colonies and began to support them with troops and supplies and much else, all of which led to the successful conclusion of the war for the Americans.
The Battle of Saratoga was considered the turning point of the Revolutionary war. This battle was the first major win for the colonies and improved morale.
