The rich and powerful had established religions which catered to them and reinforced the status quo. The poor, powerless are the audience for Christianity--"Blessed are the poor..."
It is also true that many rich and powerful people are also proud. They do not believe that they need anything, therefore they despise a religion that tells them they are sinners. Poor people are aware that there is more to life than riches. They are often humble and see the futility of striving for power and possessions. They are often also willing to listen to truth.
Because it is by Christianity that the poor is better than the rich.
" And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God."
"Woe to you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. "
"Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you."
Because unlike any other religion, Christianity offers grace. Basically, no matter how bad you are, and what you have done, Jesus still loves you, and offers you free love, salvation, and life.
First, the general population within the Roman Empire and Judea was poor. Christianity's appeal of the 'good news' was and is to all people, but was received first in the hearts of the poor since they had little to hope for. Secondly, from the foundational days of the Church, it was always clear from Christ's and the apostles teachings that the poor was to be considered and cared for since God does not show partiality to the rich (Rom.2:11), and because God cares for the poor, those in prison, the widow, the orphan, the naked, sick and broken.
Because if you were poor then you could go to church as somewhere to pray for good fortune/luck,
because the people are the comfort to the religion and The Bible and church was also to teach.
Because Jesus believed in helping others
Yes, Christianity did appeal to the poor and powerless in the ancient Roman Empire. It appealed to them because it gave them something to look forward to - the next life in which they would dwell in peace.
Most early believers were poor and slaves .
So they can appeal to Christians (and other people) and get more followers.
because it did.
the poor, uneducated, and skills
it gave the poor hopes of entering into a better life. Real religions appeal to the poor. Business/religions appeal to "the haves" not the "have nots"
Christianity appealed to people because it has the answers to the important questions in life. eg Why are we here? What happens to us after death?
Insecure folks, lower IQ's, or have been fully indoctrinated by their family.
It teaches love, peace, and respect for your fellow human being.
An example of a persuasive appeal is using emotional language to evoke feelings of empathy or urgency in the audience. This could involve highlighting the personal impact of a situation or issue to encourage action or support from others.
because the rich people in Vietnam [there were few] would have to give away their money to the poor people. everyone would be equal, making the poor not as poor as before.
