Columbus wasnt actually mean and mad all the time. But he was during his exploration. No body knows why he could but there is alot of theories. Most people suggest since he was at sea for more than a year he turned crazy. Like every crew, captain, or other explorer this isn't strange at all. Another theory is that he didn't have a good crew. His crew would always sleep and not work. Like a teacher is mean if his/her students misbehave. Since no one had a written record of why he was mean only that he was we will never actually know.

The European explorers saw the native people as less than human. With this thinking they could treat them as they wished. Columbus wrote in his diary that they would make good slaves.
