It was important in the development of astronomy and science because it was the first model that aimed to predict how the planets move in their orbits. Despite being a complicated mix of circles and epicycles it was not a bad model and it worked well for at least 1500 years until observations became accurate enough to show its imperfections.
Why did people believe that the Sun went around the Earth? Because it's pretty obvious that it does. We're standing still, and we don't FEEL like we're moving, but the Sun and Moon and Stars sure LOOK like they are moving.
Which only goes to prove that the clear evidence of our own senses can lead us astray. We don't FEEL like we're moving, because the entire Earth and the atmosphere and the oceans are rotating with us. But we are, and it is the stars and Sun which are "standing still". Except that they aren't; NOTHING is standing still.
They nedded to explain everything in life and for the thing that there was no logical or proof answer they invented something take for example theyr mytologi, if you stand and look a the sun,stars,plants...ect it will apear to you that things move arround us cous yo don't fell or realize that the earth is moving.
Hope it helped open your mind about Greeks
From their point of view, the earth was flat and the sun revolved around it. They could not gasp the concept of a oval shaped earth that rotated around the sun. Even today there are still a few people who think that the earth is flat and at the center of the universe. Standing on the earth it does seem as though the earth is flat and at the center of the universe. It took people a long time to realize that just because it looked flat, the earth was really oval shaped.
They were using Earth as a reference point for movement in space, rather than using the Sun as a reference point for Earth's movement. If you assumed Earth was still, then anything going around it would be moving.. around it.
Because they didn't have any scientific proof that it wasn't correct.
We still do. It's a matter of mass and gravitation.
I cannot tell you the layout of the old Solar System, but I can tell you that many people thought that the Earth was the center of the universe.
Because Aristotle, who may have been the wrong-est man ever to live, thought that it ought to be that way. Aristotle was a philosopher, not a scientist.
Because observation ... what you see with your own eyes whenever
you go outside and look up, whether day or night ... confirms it.
The first principles of ancient astronomy is that the heavens beyond the MOON are perfect, and the earth is corrupt.
Celestial Equator :)
The geocentric theory states that the earth goes around the sun. It was developed by philosophers of the ancient Greece.
round body and moved around the Sun
That the Earth is round was known to ancient cultures but this knowledge was suppressed in Europe, mainly by the Catholic Church whose dogma insisted that Earth was the centre of the cosmos and lay under Heaven and above Hell. This is surprising since some of the best thinkers in Europe were clerics and monks within the Catholic Church.

Yes. Most ancient cultures have spoke about beings coming down from the heavens to help guide the people of earth.

The Pope is the Bishop of Rome and the Vicar of Christ on Earth. There is nothing in Catholic doctrine or even custom to call him any title such as king of heavens and earth.
