Innovative discoveries in electricity and magnetism, a new science in his day.
Humprey Davy in 1800
Humphry Davy, an English chemist, is credited with discovering nitrous oxide, the chemical compound commonly known as laughing gas, in 1772.
The Davy Lamp was invented by Sir Humphry Davy in 1815. It was designed to prevent explosions in coal mines by safely burning methane gas that was present in the mines.
Sir Humphry Davy attended the Truro Grammar School in Cornwall, England, before moving on to the Royal Institution in London, where he conducted much of his groundbreaking work in chemistry. He did not attend university but instead gained practical experience through apprenticeships and self-directed study. Davy's education and early experiences laid the foundation for his later achievements as a prominent chemist and inventor.
