Not silly but stupid naivety. Russia's Stalin should not have been trusted.

Why ?

He forgot to leave the countries that he " freed ". Instead he brutally occupied them to spread his dreams of worldwide domination and communism. The evil force of Nazi Germany was replaced by the evil force of Stalinist Russia.

How did the allied countries reach Berlin?

After the Nazi invasion of Russia failed, the Russians launched a massive counterattack. While the German Army was being pushed back to Germany the Americans and British launched the D-Day Invasion crossing the English Channel from Britain and landing on the beaches of the French coast. As these forces fought their way inland across France, the Russians were coming from the East,so Germany found itself being closed-in on from both sides. The Russians were the only Army which actually captured and occupied Berlin. The American and British Armies were ordered to stop their advance at a certain point and allow the Russians to take Berlin alone (politics at work even in wartime).

Why did the US allow the construction of the Berlin Wall?

Following the defeat of Germany, control of the country was divided amongst the allied countries in a pie-like manner. Germany's capitol, Berlin was divided similarly. Berlin, however, lay within the area of Germany given to Russian control. Thus, the American/British-controlled portions of Berlin were surrounded by Russian-controlled Germany. The Berlin Wall was built by the Russians in the territory they had control over, the US had no means by which to prevent it, short of declaring war on Russia. The wall surrounded the American/British-controlled section.
