Because the Japanese hookers we're becoming over powering
those were strategy points for the Japanese to recover troops and to attack
They were regarded as the home islands and were closer to mainland Japan and this would give Japan's enemies an easier and shorter means of attacking Japan by aerial bombing .
becuase they had to?
?
These battles were very important to the U.S victory over Japan. BOth Iwo Jima and Okinawa where islands that held massive naval bases and airbases and severd as massive supply links to other Japanese islands. So when the U.S took them, it cut supply lanes to other unimportant, and important Japanese held islands.
Two islands under direct Japanese Empire before WWI & WWII. Many Japanese considered them part of the Japanese Homeland. A BLOODBATH because they were heavily manned and fortified. Quite a number of Japanese civilians committed SUPACU(sic) or suicide by any means, thinking the American troupes would commit atrocities.
The Japanese impressed Americans with their resolve to fight to the last man even when defeat was certain.
The last two Islands captured and freed were Okinawa and the Philippines. See attached link below. Thank you.The Philippines were an island nation, not a single island. The last two islands that the Allies invaded were Okinawa (oak-nah-wah) and Iwo Jima. (woe-jim-uh)
Iwo Jima and Okinawa - the closer to Japan the Allies came the stronger the resistance . (The US had difficult times at Guadacanal , Tarawa and Peleliu.)
Iwo Jima and Okinawa were captured in early 1945.
