Many men did not want to fight because they saw no chance of winning in fighting the 'best' army and navy in the world. Also, the soldiers were under harsh conditions sometimes, especially in the winter with shortages of food and warm clothes.

because they dont want to leave their family and they know they have to sacrifice their lives and not have a good childhoos with their children!
