Their main target was Battleship Row, where multiple U.S. battleships were anchored. After an intense bombing and airfight, the U.S. fended off the Japanese but lost many sailors and multiple important battleships, including the U.S.S. Arizona. It was considered a national tragedy, the 9/11 of WWII.
