Answer -Whitman lived in Camden NJ for 19 years & died there. And just because YOU never heard of him does not mean he was "a frustrated or unread poet". Even though having gone through many rewrites, Leaves of Grass (which was hailed as the "Declaration of Independence of American letters". The book received its strongest praise from Ralph Waldo Emerson, who wrote a flattering five-page letter to Whitman and spoke highly of the book to friends. Now let's face it, your opinion means much less to the literary world than that of Emerson's. Also, a few years after the completion & naming of the bridge, his house was designated a Historical Landmark. Regardless, you now have your answer, he lived the final years of his life in Camden
