It was not that easy, however British Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) was just getting up to speed, and would require three more years to achieve much improved techniques, tactics, equipment, intelligence, technology, training, aircraft, & ships to defeat the German U-Boats by late 1943 & early 1944. At the start of the war, the British had only just started the "Convoy System". Many of the ships sunk were not in escorted convoys.
