FiM was made because Hasbro, or The Hub as the TV channel is called, needed a new show to advertise their product, My Little Pony. Lauren Faust, well-known for her work on The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends, had/has the dream of making better shows for all the toys she loved as a girl, this included MLP. She began some sketch work and brought her ideas and basic sketches of each character to The Hub and they signed her up and it has been going great for three years.
