You're right, religion was very important to ancient Egyptians. Their whole life was based and focused on what would happen in the Afterlife. It was very important that they make the journey to the Afterworld, and serve their mighty gods.

They believed that praying to their sun gods helped them get good harvest additionally back then if you didn't have a god you were considered worthless. For example if you were a craftsman your god was Rtah they believed he created the world and many other things.
