no Fred shuttlesworth is not dead
Rev. Shuttlesworth was one of the bravest men one could ever meet. When others were afraid to confront segregation; when others were afraid to keep fighting AFTER the threats, deaths, etc.; when others were nonchalant, he was the one to NEVER back down, never give up, and never be intimidated by any man. Needless to say, if he had not existed, we would not have achieved freedom as quickly as we did here in Birmingham. Dr. King would not have come (he turned Rev. Shuttlesworth down 3 or 4 times before consenting), etc. Birmingham was the most racially segregated city in the South, and Dr. King believed that if they could break Birmingham, the whole movement across the South would be won. Rev. Shuttlesworth was definitely needed to bring freedom and equality to Birmingham with expedited speed.
