Like the rest of the Southern colonies, Georgia had an economy based on: *hunting *fishing *farming - lots of farming because of good soil, and longer growing periods *whaling *shipbuilding
90% of the people in the colonies were farming. In New England colonies they were 'substance" farmers and produced just enough for their own needs. They grew wheat, barley, and oats. The major industry was the seaports and shipbuilding as well as fishing and whaling. The timber industry became important because of the shipbuilding. Many also traded furs with the Native Americans.
