This amendment was passed so that US presidents would be limited to only 2- four year terms. Also many in politics worried about having a "president for life". One event that leads to passing the 22nd amendment is when Franklin Roosevelt was first elected President in 1932, and then re-elected in 1936. When it came time for the people to vote a candidate for the Presidency in 1940, one thing had happened. Roosevelt, who had led the nation through the Great Depression, did not seem wise. He was nominated for a third term, and won.
