It wasn't, certainly not as a commonly used reference. It is however known as the age of the industrial revolution. Among the great many developments of that era was the emergence of child labor in industries - although children contributing to the family income had been very common occurrence for centuries, certainly among the working classes.
Laws banning or limiting child labor would come into being in most Western countries in the late 19th century. The USA was the exception: here, child labor was only outlawed in 1938. Many conservative politicians and employers even then labelled the law "Communist".
