The German attack expended much of the Germans equipment and they lost many soldiers. Both were needed to try and stop the Allies drive into Germany.
With that said, the Battle of the Bulge was a German counter offensive that was totally necessary as the Allied forces marching east towards Berlin. It was a desperate gamble that almost succeeded.
Many Allied soldiers lost their lives due to the failure of Allied intelligence units.
The German's intent was to Keep the Allies from reaching Berlin.
After the battle Germany lost so much equipment and men it effectively left the German army a non-factor. Germany than turned to young children and old men to oppose the allies
With that said, the Battle of the Bulge was a necessary German counter attack. It was their last chance to stop the Allied advance in the West.
Germany lost men and military hardware in the battle that could not be replaced. This made the allies advance into Germany a little easier. Had Hitler used those resources to defend the German border and Berlin itself the Americans, British and Soviets would have incurred many more casualties. This holds especially true for the Soviets who wanted to and where agreed upon to be the only army to conquer Berlin. The Soviets incurred huge casualties doing so but had Hitler used the resources from the Bulge those numbers would have surely skyrocketed.
It was the last time that the Germans were able to launch an offensive drive. The Allies won the Battle of the Bulge. They were successful in defeating the German attempt to punch a hole in the Allied lines.
Well you see here the importance was that since it was a battle its very important because it also happened in World War 2
Because It was the German's last large attack, of note, of WWII. Were they to have been victorious the war could have gone on alot longer.
