There are several reasons and I'm sure, several opinions, but one is what The Bible says at 1 John 5:19 that the whole world is lying in the power of the wicked one. The world is run by Satan for now, and he does NOT like people to read God's word or apply any of it's council.(2 Corinthians 4:4)
