As it was written in two langues and three scripts, it helped translate some artifacts found which were not translated never before.
The most helpful thing was the discovery of the Rosetta Stone in 1799; an inscription in three scripts.
The Rosetta Stone was instrumental in the deciphering of Egyptian hieroglyphics ; see related link below .Hieroglyphics were deciphered using the Rosetta stonean Egyptian artifact that was discovered in the late 1700's by the frenchit contained a three carved texts two in Egyptian and the third in classic greekbeing able to translate the greek allowed the English to translate the other languageswhen they acquired the stone in the early 1800'sHieroglyphics were decoded thanks to the discovery of the Rosetta Stone. The Rosetta Stone can best be described as a decoder stone. This stone featured Egyptian hieroglyphs, Demotic script, and Ancient Greek. The three types of writing all contained basically the same information, which made it easier for archaeologists and historians to decode the hieroglyphs and make a sort of "key" to be able to decode other hieroglyphs that may be found.
Nobody in the world can speak ancient Egyptian today, since the language was written without its vowel sounds (exactly as in ancient Phoenician, Arabic and Hebrew). For this reason modern Egyptologists often use the vowel e to represent the missing, unknown vowels, so the word for house (pr in hieroglyphs) is said per, the word for established (mn in hieroglyphs) is said men and so on. This is certainly not the way the words were said in ancient times, but the real sound of the language is lost for ever. The way to learn to read and write the language is to sign up for an Egyptology course at a university; in the UK, Cambridge University is currently offering a course for beginners (see link below) but there are many similar courses on offer. This will not provide a comprehensive grounding in the ancient Egyptian language - that would take many years of intensive study.Alternatively you could buy a range of books and teach yourself, although it is helpful if you already have experience in other languages such as Latin, Hebrew or Arabic. Some books that I would recommend are:How to Read Egyptian Hieroglyphs by Mark Collier and Bill ManleyDiscovering Egyptian Hieroglyphs by Karl-Theodor ZauzichUnderstanding Hieroglyphs by Hilary Wilson
Rosetta Stone teaches you how to interact and just know the basics of languages like French and Spanish. Rosetta stone also goes into learning how to shop, while speaking that language. It is very helpful to buy Rosetta Stone before a trip, to know the language. Try to learn or order it in advance, like 1 month before the trip at least. Hope this helps!
A standard dictionary is not likely to be helpful in deciphering your dream. Dreams use metaphors, images that represent other things. That is not information covered by dictionaries.
lessons can sometimes be expensive, but Rosetta Stone is still good. Books are also helpful.
Honestly, my textbook says on rooftops. So, the rooftops. :) Hope I was helpful!
hieroglyphics are the most useful if deciphered properly.
