Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee- Mostly made up or College Students, trying to speed up the process of Civil Rights Changes. African Americans would SIT in protest (called "sit-ins") at restaurants and other Stores, forcing them to desegregate.
It gave the students or younger people a chance to be involved. They were a big role starting with the Sit-ins and freedom rides. Eventually they were over taken by the black panthers and the black power statement but they had a huge role in non-violent protests.
The purpose of SNCC during the early years of the Civil Rights era was that it coordinated students around the south in resisting segregation laws.
