Why was the Titanic usinkable?

The Titanic was thought to be unsinkable because it boasted many luxuries largely unknown at the time, including a double hull, "watertight" compartments and fast engines. In addition, the sheer size of the ship was intimidating, which probably contributed to the assumption that it was unsinkable.
