All the Trails of Tears were forced removals of the Indians from their native lands, usually with just the clothing on their backs. Some tribes were forced to walk long distances with little, if any protective clothing to lands too foreign for them to survive in great numbers. Others were sent by train to lands so different that they died by the thousands. These forced removals split of families, took them away from their ancestral homes and ancestors.
