A large part of United States' history has involved war, so naturally, the society was geared to promote and develop the tools of war. Because it had such a strong military force, it was easier able to coerce other nations into agreeing with it (for fear of having them declare war with their stronger weaponry, and at the same time deny those same developments in technology to them). Thus America now has massive trade connections and a powerful military sector, giving it a major influence on virtually everything.

The nation
For the world at large, they simply looked at the most powerful nation on earth from a different perspective...the US wasn't invincible after all.
Yes. We still had the strongest, and most combat experienced military, from fighting the Vietnam War. Other than North Vietnamese jet fighter pilots, no nation on earth had the combat experienced jet fighter pilots and heavy bomber crews that America had. That is so wrong I can't even begin to tell youThe United States was never the most powerful nation in the world. It was definitly up there in terms of military power, but the belief that they are the most powreful nation in the world is a groundless lie they came up with. And if they had such great pilots and crews, why did South Vietnam lose?

Because the poor semi united clonists were completely united in the vision of being free from the most powerful nation in the world. Perhaps, more importantly, the most powerful nation in the world made the most powerful mistake that can be made - never underestimate your adversary. Underestimation of the abilities of the other has been the downfall of every empire since the dawn of time, and may I add, quite a few over confident fellows as well.
