The White House was becoming increasingly dangerous over time. When the 3rd floor was added years before Truman took office, this addition caused too
much additional weight for the structures to support. By 1947, because of that, and all the other weight that was added like newer office equipment and telecommunications, it was just a matter of time before something catastrphic would occur! Truman's daughter who lived at the White House was a piano student. They were attempting to move their piano and a hole was created from the floorboard of become too weak over time. Soon after is when President Truman decided to gut the entire interior and strengthen White House by using steel beams and other materials to make the place much safer!
