Why was the first Cell Phone disigned?

The cell phone idea actually started in the 1920's with police radios and then in 1947 Bell labs made a cell type phone. It was in 1973 that Dr. Martin Cooper made the first cell phone like the ones we have today.

The first cell phones were only sold to the government and in 1984 they finally were offered to the public. They were large, heavy, and copied land line phones in style and were carried in a zippered bag with the battery taking up the whole bottom.
