The luck he had was because when he was waiting for the wind to change, it took about 2 weeks so he had plenty of time to prepare. Also, when the wind did change Harold was up in york so he had more time to prepare! When Harold eventually came from the battle with harald all his men were really tired AND William had fifteen thousand souldiers, whilst William had only five thousand tired ones.
