Why was the exodus a significant event in Hebrew history?

To the Hebrews, the release from slavery proved that God was protecting them. They believed that they been set free because God loved them.

It marked the beginning of the Israelites as a separate nation, it indebted us to God; and it was the prologue to the Giving of the Torah.
