most of the guns in the past were single shot with gunpower that the solider had to manually load. This process would take too long and would be risky. The machine gun was automatic thus making it easier to kill.
The machine gun changed warfare
As grisly as it is referring to warfare, the weapons of World War I changed warfare by making it much more efficient. WW I was not the first use of the machine gun, but it was the first sustained use of the water cooled machine gun, which could fire 500+ rounds per minute, hour after hour. In research done after that war, the machine gun was voted the most destructive weapon of the war by all combatants.
The World War one technoloigies were planes, submarine, gas mask, gas , tank, trench warfare, machine gun.
The British used the Vickers machine gun
Because of this machine gun the military stratagy had changed instead of linking arms and marching straight at your enemy firing like they did in the revolutionary war. Trench warfare was invented so you can not be hit by the raging bullets.
The machine gun was first introduced in World War II. This was the first war with massive numbers of casualties due to destructive weaponry and guerilla warfare, among other causes. It is impossible to pinpoint exactly how many deaths the machine gun has caused since its introduction, or even in that war alone.
