When the tower was built in 1973, the major tenant was Sears (Sears Roebuck & Co.) and the company's naming rights were granted for 30 years. However, the name remained unchanged after the expiration in 2003.

When Willis Group Holdings (London) took occupancy in the tower in 2009, the company purchased the naming rights effective July 16, 2009.
