The United Nations Organization (the UN or UNO) was created on 24 October, 1945, immediately after the end of the WWII. Its goals are to maintain peace in the world and to prevent another world war. There are 192 member states in the UN .The Security Council meets whenever peace is threatened and tries to settle disputes peacefully. If there is fighting, it tries to get ceasefire and 'force' the opponents to a conference table to discuss problems and reach a peace treaty. It often sends a peacekeeping mission to keep the fighting parties apart.
