The Titanic was supposed to be the newest and safest vessel afloat. There was great pressure put on the captain of the vessel to try and set a new speed record across the Atlantic Ocean. Because she had so many safety features built in such as waterproof doors, they thought that the ship could still float even if there was a major flooding emergency within a few of the compartments. Pride goes before the fall.
Since everyone worldwide was amazed at her size, the owner of the White Star Line, J. Bruce Ismay, wanted them to be marveled at her speed and wanted to get into New York a day early in order to not only make headlines, but to retire with a "bang"
The Titanic was going so fast because Captain E. J. Smith was pressured by Bruce Ismay, the chairman of White Star Line. White star Line is the company that owned the Titanic.
Titanic was going at full speed because this was normal in the time she sailed. Now people slow down so they can avoid icebergs but then people thought that the less time they spent near icebergs the less chance they would hit them so they carried on as normal so they could get away from the ice as fast as they could also Bruce Ismay knew Titanic could set a world record. Bruce ismay knew Titanic could not set a world record. Cunard lines Mauretania was faster and Titanic had no chance of beating her as Titanic was built for luxury not speed.
The Titanic was the largest, most modern and supposedly safest ship in the world. The owners were very proud of her and wanted to set a record for the shortest trans Atlantic crossing. The captain was under tremendous pressure from the owners to accomplish this. I'm sure that he wanted to secure this record also. To sum it up, pride was the motive.
Ismay knew that they would not break a record because the Holder of the blue ribbon, The Mauretania was much faster and the Titanic was built for comfort not speed. The Titanic was traveling at that speed because of the way people thought in those times. The thought that the less time you spent in an ice Field the less chance you would hit one so if you went fast then you would not be in the ice field very long and there would be less chance of hitting anything.
There was a great deal of competition between shipping lines. The ship that held the record for the fastest crossing received an award, the Blue Riband. This not only gave that ship "bragging rights", but allowed them to charge for for passage. The Titanic was attempting to set a new record for the fastest crossing on her maiden voyage. And of course, they were certain that the Titanic- the largest moving object ever built by man- was unsinkable.
Because the builders of the ship wanted to prove the a huge ship like titanic can also travel very fast ,, i guess :)
Because the captain and the company wanted to set a good time across the atlantic.
Titanic, according to the protocol of the day, was not going too fast. It was standard to maintain almost-maximum speed, even at night.
because it wanted to get away from the iceberg but it couldn't because they had crashed and they slowly drowned
The Titanic hit the Iceberg because it was traveling too fast.
it was very big and heavy so it wasnt very fast
For the first few days Titanic averaged 21 knots.
27 knots
Because of the ship's luxury and it being the largest moving object ever made by man in all history at that time.
26 knotts.
Captain Edward J. Smith
Yes, they do that is why we smell farts so fast
Gravity.
fast moving
Titanic is not moving underwater but there is a "wind" which means deep-sea currents. This "wind" has been noticeable, especially to divers.
Fast moving water.
mtiro
The captain of Titanic had her going at 21 knots.
it is rusting
Titanic was traveling near top-speed on the night of the collision because that was ordinary protocol at the time and she had a scheduled arrival time in New York. There was also a false sense of confidence because the ship steered in a more southerly direction after several iceberg warnings, and there were lookouts posted.
fast
