Although it is often said that the French would like to be governed at the centre (of the political spectrum), that doesn't play well will the French political parties, split along a left and right divide. In the political class, there is little support for a stong central party. Left and right parties have no clear majority and as soon as a side wins the general elections, only its stalwart supporters stick to it. The small part of the electorate which gave it its victory evaporates, or swings back to the other side at the next election, as happened regularly since the late 1980s.

Like most of the world, France has traffic driving on the right side of the road, so the steering wheel would be on the left side of the car. Some countries (notably the UK, Ireland, Japan, Australia, South Africa, India and Pakistan) have traffic driving on the left side of the road, so they have steering wheels on the right side of the car. Occasionally, you might see a visiting UK car, with right side drive, in Paris.
Drivers in France drive on the right side of the road, which is the right one for mainland Europeans.
