People wear a turban because their "book of rules" tells them to.

Members of other organisations also wear a "uniform" or "Badge" to show their membership of the chosen organisation.

Police carry a badge, Hindu's have a red spot, Jews wear a cap, Goths wear black, Hells-angels wear leather/ride a harly/get lots of tattoos.

I could go on.

Basically it's a way to show membership of a specific group.
