Erosion occurs because a river flows through it (it is a feature of river erosion), and also the fact that it has some narrow parts, there can be high wind speeds so wind erosion also occurs. Then when you consider weathering, you must consider what kinds of weathering can occur. The Grand Canyon has a large diurnal range (different between highest and lowest temperatures) resulting in ex-foliation, but is quite dry so it is unlikely that biological or freeze-thaw weathering occurs. It is a National Park, so it should be considered that human erosion is minimal or non-existent (apart from erosion caused by careless tourists).

Overall, the Grand Canyon has a lot of exposed rock, so there are plenty of opportunities for weathering and erosion to occur.
