The is no firm Scriptural evidence that the Martha and Mary and latter Lazarus of Luke's Gospel are one and the same with the family in John's. Luke mentions a 'certain village' not specifically Bethany. We should always allow The Bible to interpret itself. Further, Jesus in His most tender of ways, speaks to Martha's anxiety over ordinary matters when He, the Son of God was with them in the flesh. That is the priority as it was a once in a lifetime event.

Lazarus is not about going to heaven as no man but Jesus qualified to go to heaven as John 3:13 makes plain. The parable was speaking of the rewards of the repentant and the unrepentant in this life. Lazarus was safe from the engulfing Lake of Fire while the rich man was feeling the heat and knew of his impending doom - the 2nd death.

Mary and Martha were sisters mentioned only in Luke's Gospel and John's Gospel. The two authors saw the sisters quite differently, so it is possible to think they were not the same persons.

Luke briefly mentioned Jesus as visiting Mary and Martha, who were sisters of clearly modest means who lived in a village, which is not actually identified. This short passage becomes a lesson that service to Jesus was more important than helping others. The sisters were not referred to as being related to Lazarus, who was only mentioned later, in a parable about a poor beggar dying and going to heaven.

John wrote an episode, in which Jesus visited the sisters, Mary and Martha, in Bethany and resurrected their dead brother, Lazarus. The context shows the sisters and Lazarus to be well-to-do individuals. This was one of the most important episodes in John's Gospel. Not only does it prove the miraculous power of Jesus, far better than any miracle in the synoptic gospels, it was the specific trigger that made the priests decide they must arrest Jesus before all they people began to follow him..
