because it was one of the closest slave states to the north, i think it actually was touching free states
Because most of the battles were fought in the south, there was a lot of damage.
Much of the action in the Civil War occurred in the northern part of Virginia between Washington and Richmond. The largest and most crucial battles were fought in Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Mississippi, Georgia, and Virginia. Oddly, the state that suffered the greatest number of casualties was North Carolina, which was also the state with almost the fewest number of major battles.
Virginia with more than a 100 or maybe more than 200 battles! It was the home to a lot of Civil War battles because of it's place. It is right between the North and South (Union and Confederacy) therefore is an easy battle area. The first battle, the battle of Bull Run, was fought in Virginia, although, the last battle was not. Virginia had seceded from the Union later than most states, mainly because there were a lot of debating. Virginia (or rather the confederacy) was home to a lot of famous generals such as Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson and Robert E. Lee.In addition, the fact that each sides capitol city was a mere 100 miles apart seemed to accentuate the need for conflicts in order to place pressure on each side of the war.
Yes there were a lot of wars so many I can't count any more.:)
all i know is that the U.S has fought in about 8 wars, but i bet there's a lot more! :)
There where a lot of Cavaliers in Virginia during the Civil War.

I'm going to assume you mean virginia..... and a lot happened. Richmond was the capital of the Confederacy.
A lot of things happened in Virginia- and we have been around for over 400 years. Virginia was the first permanent English settlement in the New World. People from Virginia were very active in forming the new government of the US. Wars fought here included the Revolutionary War, War of 1812, Civil War.
There are a lot of Indian leaders who fought in many historic battles, but to name a few are Black Elk he fought in the Battle of Little Bighorn, then there was famous for fighting in the War of 1812, and then Red Cloud who fought in the Red Cloud war.
