British-made rock and roll was popular in the 1960s.
When I want to hold your hand by The Beatles went to number one in the US in January 1964, that started a wave of British groups charting here. This wave went on through 1966.

Some examples would be The Dave Clark Five, the Hollies, the Searchers, The Moody Blues, The Merseys, Freddy and the Dreamers, Gerry and the Pacemakers, and Herman's Hermits.
